With her beautiful, bold appearance, and her soft, gentle nature, one would not guess that Abbie originated from very humble beginnings; in fact, had she not been rescued when she was, the results may have been tragic.

Discovered by SOTRA owner Joan’s husband and son at a cattle auction, Abbie was a sight for sore eyes. She was emaciated and covered by many cuts and bruises from living in a large herd. Additionally, as she stood with a defeated stance and her head down, Abbie’s demeanour seemed as sorry and sad as her appearance. Still, there was something about Abbie that touched the heart of Joan’s son, Sasha. Despite her visible shortcomings, Sasha noticed the softest look in Abbie’s and something about her tugged at his heart.

Since the ranch that is home to SOTRA has an open door policy, Abbie was purchased and brought home to the ranch, where, over the next few months, everyone watched with delight as Abbie began to gain weight and her coat started to shine.

When Abbie was ready to begin her duties on the ranch, Sasha soon discovered that she excelled in the work required of her, and that she especially loved the calves. Each spring when the cattle are moved onto the range, Abbie keeps a watchful eye on the calves making sure that even the smallest ones are close by. She seems to give back the nurturing that she once lacked but now enjoys so much. It is a sight to behold.

A star on the ranch, Abbie is now being introduced to the therapeutic riding program, where her kind nature makes her a natural fit to the lesson program. Unquestionably, Abbie will become as valued to the riding program as she is to both Sasha and the ranch.
